Our path to success...
The richard alan group began life in 1970 when the founder owners Richard Johnson and Alan Bragan started richard alan engineering, based in Halifax and predominantly serving the textile industry. In 1990, following the retirement of the founders, it was all systems go to let loose the ambitions of the next generation. In 1996 land at Shaw Cross near Dewsbury was purchased and in August 1997 the whole business was transferred to the new development. The move to Shaw Cross, with its new prestigious offices and manufacturing location changed richard alan engineering for ever.
“Group” activities began in earnest in 1999 with the formation of Pumps and Ancillaries, recently renamed to pumps and gearboxes. In 2007 this business celebrated the signing of an exclusive supply contract for the UK and Ireland with Yilmaz Reduktor, a major Turkish gearbox manufacturer. A similar exclusive arrangement followed in 2008 with Boyser peristaltic/hose pumps from Spain.
In 2005, group expansion continued with the acquisition of scaffolding access solutions (SAS) thus further extending the group offering. With the backing of group services, especially health & safety and management, the scaffolding business stands out from the crowd with a professionalism not usually associated within the industry.
By the end of 2006 a further opportunity arose, this time with a recruitment business. By the start of 2007 am recruitment was part of the group, providing recruitment services not only for richard alan businesses but generally across the Yorkshire region.
Over recent years, richard alan engineering had developed it’s own CNC machining department. In 2007, this was given the opportunity to become a stand alone business within the group with the formation of ramco CNC. This company is gearing up for rapid growth within the sub contract machining sector, while at the same time providing vital services to other parts of the richard alan group.
One year on, May 2008, richard alan construction (RAC) will be the latest business to stand alone under the group umbrella. Offering comprehensive building services to industry, this business further strengthens the group offering and provides the ability to offer complete turnkey solutions to the commercial and industrial sector.
Today the group has an annual turnover of £12m and employs over 150 people. As for the future…….new and exciting opportunities are never overlooked, and are always addressed with the richard alan “go for it” attitude.
